At Monaghans Redux

The film`s getting there, I think. Meanwhile, I`m giving tumblr a shot. Except for the bizarre image color restrictions, it seems to be a lot... easier to use.

That`s the new bouncer at Monaghan`s. He looked a lot like an old buddy of mine, except he literally isn`t slavic enough.

That's what they're called, right?

Color Test... and a Post

You know, it's nice to have color calibration software. Problem with that though, is that true colors look like true puke. Kind of a juggling match, color adjusting.

It's also nice to take a break from antelopes for a little bit, but that's coming back on real real soon. This is technically a life drawing.

Really have to update this blog more.

GUACAMELEE ON STEAM

GUACAMELEE COMES OUT ON STEAM TOMORROW

YOU (YOU!) ARE NOW COMPELLED TO PURCHASE IT. COMPEEELLLLEEEED

Or you know, do whatever. Go out, play some b-ball, eat some Mediterranean food, watch The Wolverine...

Here's some stuff I'm doing in between work and 4th year film prep. They're cryptids! I'll link up the wiki article on what they are too. Really, read up. It's fascinating stuff.

Dailies...Woke Up Like This

Bloodshot eyes, stuffed sinuses, feeling like hammered diarrhea.

Allergy season, joy...

Whoops, Missed a Bunch of Days

Was playing Guacamelee. Totally worth it.

This guy was picking through the garbage near Port Credit. Dumpster dived for a good 5 minutes. It was crazy.

Dailies...probably

A caricature based purely on hearsay.

I think I might still have PTSD style dreams about the group film.

Dailies...maybe

Really have to stop using that rim light thing.

IT'S OVER

I may have just seen Paperman again...

D:

How I feel right now.

Chuggin' along....

Chuggin' along. There's no context to this animation at all. It doesn't really make sense in sequence either, to be honest. It's missing like two layers of character animation.

I misplaced my sanity somewhere today, but the cintiq light had burned the focus out of my eyes and I couldn't find it again. I asked everyone else if they had my sanity, but they were too busy looking for their own. Such is third year.

The Quickest Test Scene

The quickest, most context free of them all.

Also stress. There's that too.

ANIMATION!

Freakin' Out Man

I still added the typewriter!
Clarity of form?

For whom does the bell toll,
but for the poor,
 poor,
huddling masses of animation students,
with the shadow of portfolios at their throats?

This isn't the Spanish Civil War, but it's Almost As Bad (maybe). Like some kind of strange purgatory where work constantly rains from the sky and can never be finished.

Forever.

Sketch on the ground
I don't even know man.

The Great DQ Tree

Thanks to Charlie for the idea.
Suppose for a moment, that time was water.

Imagine then, that the span of the Christmas break was a bowl. The time that constitutes that span is the water sloshing in the bowl.

Now let's assume that Productivity is Shin brand Ramen noodles. These ingredients would be put into the bowl of water, and God willing, become something edible. That bowl of Ramen would be the culmination of a productive break well spent.

Follow?

Now imagine taking that bowl of water, going to your bathroom, and dumping both the bowl and the water into the toilet. Suppose then that you took the packet of Ramen and rabidly tore at the packaging with your teeth, scattering the ingredients onto the bathroom floor. From your rabidly foaming mouth, you would deposit the shredded packaging into the toilet, and you would flush. Repeatedly.

You do not know why you are doing this, and in your mind, you reel in horror from the inanity of your actions. Yet you do not stop. You are gripped with a compulsion that gurgles from the dark recesses of your subconsciousness, and against the force of its necessity, you can do no more than let out a single, tortured rasp. You step blindly and wildly, crunching the scattered Ramen noodles on the ground like bone dry autumn leaves, as if to make for an exit. Yet still you flush, and flush, and flush...

That is, I think, one way to describe my break.
It was actually pretty cool otherwise. One of my better Christmas breaks, in fact.

Crazy patterned fish from the zoo.

Well, I Don't See Nibiru, Do You?

As she appears in the film.

Either that was the most disappointing rapture in history, or nothing happened on Doomsday. Not even centuries old eschatological prophecies can save us from our portfolio preparations, as the mighty hand of Animation stays even the trumpets of the apocalypse.

Also found some old character designs as I was going through my folders. They're not the best designs, but get this: "It's Hard Out There For a Pimp...In Asgard".

Did Someone Say Sleep?

Or maybe I'm just hearing things.

Here's those pesky old Royal Winter Fair Drawings. This year's probably notable for the fact that I didn't get a single good study.

Not a one.

The sketches I did manage to jot down were so rough that small children passing by would have to forcibly restrain themselves from offering me drawing advice.

It was... quite the sobering experience.

Goat that looked like it's done a few tours in Hyboria.
My subject hates this caricature.

She had a crazy hairdo.
Only roughly sprited at this point. The pigeons at the fair were out of this world. Will finish eventually

Tonight, we saw one of the most impressive moonbows I've ever had the pleasure to witness. Every star and every cloud in sight was ringed by this radiant, ghostly yellow halo. It was fantastic.

Dinosawrs

Group B1! From left to right... eh, you can figure it out yourself.

Note that Izzy and Maria were drawn by the wonderful Maureine Good, who also helped with the coloring. A real credit to the team she is.

And our group logo, designed in 5 minutes on short notice. We are technically the only religious organization to have ever produced a film at Sheridan. I think it's funny, but I'm sure the cabal of lawyers staring at me through my window don't think so. They need to maybe prosecute a chill pill.

Some drawings from the dinosaur show. Funny bit about that, we didn't even draw any of the dinosaurs from the show we payed money for. These are from the permanent collection. The idea is that we'll piss away our money now, while we aren't starving between ramen packets.
